CHUNG TAI SHAN ZEN CENTER
The project involves the construction of a new Cultural Center and place of worship dedicated to the Buddhist tradition “Shijiamouni Fo”, located in the municipality of Campi Bisenzio, in the province of Florence. The complex, covering approximately 6,000 sqm across three levels above ground, was conceived as a place for gathering, meditation and cultural exchange.
Studio UNIDEA was responsible for interior design, artistic direction and technical coordination, as well as project management throughout the phases of design development, tendering and construction.
The interior design was developed in collaboration with GPA Partners, with particular attention to the design of furnishings and finishes, interpreting the symbolism and aesthetic language of the Buddhist tradition. Material choices — natural, authentic and closely connected to Eastern culture — were guided by continuous dialogue with the client and by an extensive research process that included visits and site inspections in temples in Taiwan.
Project management activities were carried out according to international best practices, with structured processes for control and monitoring throughout the various stages of development.
The objective was to ensure respect for the temple’s spiritual values while optimizing costs and guaranteeing a high level of quality fully aligned with the expectations of the client and the cultural significance of the project.
